What do you do in the evenings while you’re on vacation?

Going out to the clubs may appeal to others, others may choose to spend their nights somewhere else. Not everybody is suited to join a club. While many travelers find discovering a new city’s nightlife to be one of the most exciting aspects of their trip, some travelers simply do not appreciate the noisy, sweaty, and crowded club scene. And that’s just fine! Just because you don’t want to go clubbing doesn’t mean you have to stay in your room all night and play on your phone. It does not imply that you must go to bed early. No matter where you go, there are plenty of nighttime events that don’t include going to clubs. Exploring a new city late at night has a certain allure. When new sights, sounds, and smells fill the air, the pace shifts. Did you know that many galleries and sightseeing tours in major cities welcome tourists after dusk?

4 Ways to Stay Up Late While on Vacation

  1. Food Trip. For those travelers who are foodies, you might like to take a culinary tour when you’re in a new city. While culinary tours also run during the day, you can also find those that take place at night. Is there a better way to get to know the cuisine of a city by taking a guided tour of the best places to eat throughout the night? If you are a foodie, another night-time activity could be simply enjoying a long dinner. Rather than rushing dinner early and then heading off to a club, take your time. Arrive at the restaurant at 8 or 9 p.m. (this is actually considered an early dinner in some parts of Europe!), and leisurely enjoy each course.
  1. Relax in the Pool. So when the schedule is jam-packed with events, it’s often better to take advantage of the evenings to unwind and refresh. If you want to get some rest but don’t want to stay in your bed, check to see if your hotel’s pool or spa is available. Depending on where you are, some close at sunset, while others stay open until midnight or later. Relaxing by the pool while gazing at the stars will be just whatever you need if the weather cooperates. You will not wake up groggy, but more refreshed and ready to go!
  2. See the Night Lights. The nighttime can be the best time to tour the city based on your destination—when all the lights are on. Many companies would provide after-dark tours specifically for this reason. You will still get all the advantages of a daytime tour, but you will receive an additional bonus of appreciating the city in all its splendor. This is a fun way to feel like you’re a part of the “nightlife” scene without actually being there. While a night tour can be substituted for a daytime tour, for the full city feel, you should do both. Night tours are also possible in cities that are not as bright at night.
  1. Gallery / Museum Tour. It may take a little research but you will probably find that many of these are open later on some nights if you check out the museum and gallery hours in the City you are visiting. Many art museums, for example, last for one or two nights every week and extend their hours until evenings. Special events, such as film projections or exhibition spaces may occur in other art galleries at night. Even though there’s nothing like the normal event at the museum, in a much less stressful environment you can take your time to appreciate the displays.
