This is a short adventure that’s perfect for a corporate group looking for a team bonding experience or a madcap group of friends who are after a totally unique holiday.
This Simpson Desert experience is not only the perfect way to try out an expedition with your friends, it’s also an amazing way to see a part of Australia very few have ever been lucky enough to explore. In this unique desert environment, you’ll be surrounded by tall, tan-coloured dunes and exquisite sunsets.
If you have never flown a kite before, the 5th Element Expeditions team will quickly bring you up to speed and make the learning process a breeze.
Once you are confident on the kite, we’ll add the desert buggy to the mix. These are balloon-tyre trikes that allow safe passage across the salt flats. A 4WD is always on hand to ensure safe recovery of you and the team, and a comfortable return to base.
Once all team members have mastered the traction kite, we’ll embark on our short yet exhilarating journey down the salt lake. The rest of the day will be spent traversing the open spaces of this majestic desert. We’ll return for an evening around a campfire, catching up on laughs from the day’s adventures.
Day 1: You’ll fly into Birdsville at the edge of the grand Simpson Desert where we’ll stop for a lunch in the iconic Birdsville pub. In the afternoon, we’ll charter a flight into a salt lake system deep within the desert. This mini expedition opens with an introductory kite lesson with your instructors on the salt pan. You’ll use the rest of this day to learn how to harness the wind. Once you have that down pat, we’ll add the buggies for some extreme sport fun. We’ll return to base after a full day of kiting for dinner under a canvas and a campfire under the stars.
Day 2: You’ll spend all day exploring the wide-open spaces of the majestic slat flats. The day ends with a dinner back at base and some campfire fun.
This expedition is perfect for small teams and runs year-round. We can work around your schedule. Get in touch so we can work out a time that suits you.
A strong base level of fitness is crucial to the success of any expedition. If you are feeling unfit, contact the 5th Element Expeditions team for some tips and training routines.
Kite experience is welcomed, but not essential. Feel free to get in touch if you’d prefer some kite lessons before you set off on this adventure.
